The Erie Canal was one of the most groundbreaking innovations ever created by the U.S.A. Connecting the Great Lakes to the Hudson River, the canal spanned 363 miles and was created at a time when the U.S. had not experienced much growth of industry. The canal took eight long years to build and cost a total of 7 million dollars. The project was thought to be impossible, but proved to break the barriers of transportation restrictions into the midwest. With its completion, the canal was widely celebrated throughout New York, because of the introduction of trade opportunities and effortless transportation.
